Sam Feinstein (1915 - 2003) is an American artist whose work is a significant part of our cultural history. Feinstein was an artist, writer and filmmaker. This body of artworks shown here at Harvest Gallery Wine Bar is from the Sam Feinstein Estate. They represent harbor scenes painted in Gloucester during the summers of 1946, 1947 and 1948 and they demonstrate a sense of Feinstein’s style before the Provincetown years where he studied with Hans Hofmann from 1949 – 1952. These harbor scenes are on paper and made with watercolor, casein, pastel and ink.
Feinstein’s works are in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the New Britain Museum of American Art, the Provincetown Art Association and Museum, the Cape Ann and Cape Cod Museum of Art.
